Stakeholders in Mubi, Adamawa State, have identified drug abuse, land disputes, and farmers-herders clashes as major security threats in the area.
They urged the police and other law enforcement agencies to intensify the fight against drug abuse and related crimes to enhance civilian protection.
The concerns were raised at a roundtable advocacy meeting in Mubi, organised by the Centre for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC).
According to CIVIC’s Community Liaison Officer, Mr. Noel Helwa Zachary, the engagement was aimed at strengthening community-led security alerts to ensure better protection of civilians in Mubi North Local Government Area.

Zachary emphasised that collaborative efforts between security agencies and communities were essential for effective protection.
He added that the organisation is working with government, the military, and civil society champions to advance policies that minimise civilian harm while helping communities develop self-protection strategies.
Participants at the meeting also proposed solutions to the identified threats.
The Mubi North LGA Information Officer, Mr. Titus Irmiya, said creating job opportunities for unemployed youths and equipping security agencies with manpower and resources were key steps to addressing insecurity.
Another participant, Yerima Usman, highlighted drug abuse and illicit trafficking as the most pressing challenges, urging governments at all levels to step up arrests and prosecutions to deter offenders.
