The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved contracts worth N2.75 billion for the construction of permanent houses for conflict-displaced families in Madagali Local Government Area and the provision of security infrastructure at Government Secondary School, Fufore.
The approvals were granted during the Council’s 11th Executive Council meeting of the year, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House, Yola.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. James Iliya (Leader Leneke), said the projects are part of the administration’s commitment to humanitarian intervention, post-conflict recovery, and the protection of public institutions.
According to him, the Executive Council approved N1.97 billion for the construction of 108 semi-detached housing units in Madagali Local Government Area under the state’s “Return to Ancestral Home Pathway” initiative.
He explained that the programme is designed to facilitate the safe return and resettlement of residents displaced by insurgency and other security challenges, enabling them to rebuild their lives in their ancestral communities.
The Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Humanitarian Services, Bello Hamman Diram, said the housing project would provide permanent accommodation for families who have remained in temporary camps or are being sheltered by host communities.
“These houses will provide decent and permanent shelter for those most affected by the crisis, many of whom are still living in makeshift camps or relying on the goodwill of host families,” Diram said.
The Council also approved N781 million for the construction of a perimeter fence and gatehouse at Government Secondary School, Fufore, as part of efforts to strengthen security within the school.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Garba Pella, said the project is expected to be completed within five months.
He noted that the security infrastructure would safeguard students, teachers and school property, prevent land encroachment, restrict unauthorised access to the premises, and fulfil Governor Fintiri’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment across the state.
The approvals underscore the Fintiri administration’s continued investment in post-conflict recovery, humanitarian support and the protection of educational institutions in Adamawa State.
