Adamawa EXCO Approves N5.4Bn for Roads, Security, others

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri presided over the 16th Adamawa State Executive Council meeting for 2025 in Yola, where the Council approved projects worth over N5.4 billion. The approvals cover road construction, security enhancement, power supply, and infrastructure upgrades.
Briefing journalists after the meeting at the Government House Council Chambers, Commissioner for Information, James Iliya, disclosed that N4.4 billion was allocated for the construction of the Girei–Pariya–Wuro Bokki Road. The project covers 18 kilometers under Phase One and will be executed by Rekon & Kon Nigeria Limited, with a completion timeline of 12 months.
The Council also approved N189 million for the construction of a police outpost at the 1,000-unit Housing Estate in Malkohi to strengthen security and safeguard infrastructure in the area.
In addition, the government will procure a new 1,000 KVA generator worth N580 million for the Government House to replace the existing unit purchased in 2014. Furthermore, N199 million has been earmarked for the procurement of 10 transformers to be distributed to communities lacking reliable electricity.

According to the Information Commissioner, these approvals underscore the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, security, and improved living standards across both urban and rural communities.
Commissioner for Works, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, explained that the Girei–Pariya road project, initially awarded in 2016, was abandoned due to non-payment by the previous administration. He noted that Governor Fintiri’s administration has revived the project, dividing it into phases, with the first phase covering 18 kilometers at a revised cost of N6.4 billion. He added that the original contractor has been retained and given 12 months to deliver the project.
Commissioner for Urban Development, Abdullahi Prambe, highlighted that the projects form part of Governor Fintiri’s urban renewal agenda, aimed at decongesting the capital city. He stated that the 1,000 housing units at Malkohi are near completion, and to ensure residents’ safety, the government has awarded a contract worth N189 million for security outposts.
He further disclosed that other government facilities, including lodges, the Governor’s Office, and the Government House main gate, are also receiving upgrades. The 1,000 KVA generator, he said, will guarantee steady power supply whenever public electricity is unavailable.
