Admiral Nyako is running on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while General Marwa is seeking the top prize in the state on the ticket of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). The third major contender, who is of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr Markus Gundiri, made considerable show, according to early results obtained by our correspondent in Yola from polling units.

 

At polling unit 012, Ajiya ward, where former Vice president Atiku Abubakar voted, PDP polled 128 votes, CPC 62 and ACN 52 votes. But the ACN led in Karewa unit 011, where it polled 212. There the CPC had 69 votes, the PDP 97, while ADC had one vote, and ANPP also had one vote.

In Larmude LGA. Dubwangun ward, Bafyau unit 1-ACN 35, PDP 42, CPC 30. Kofar-Jauro unit 2- ACN 28, PDP 44, CPC 60.

In Ganye LGA. Ganye Ward 1: unit 003-ACN 138, CPC 170, PDP 75. Unit 004- ACN 65, CPC 93, PDP 58. Unit 15- ACN 65, CPC 190, PDP 93.

MAYO/BELWA LGA. Gangfada ward 003: ACN 75, ADC 2, ANPP 2, CPC 50, and PDP 83. Tola Ward 11: ACN 146, CPC 303, PDP 513.

FUFORE LGA. Farang Ward: ACN 50, CPC 428, PDP 488.

Though the election was adjuged to be peaceful, a low turnout of voters was a major highlight of  Saturday’s governorship election in some parts of the state.

Reports say many eligible voters stayed at home, forcing officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to attend to fewer registered voters.

In Mubi towns reports say that the low turnout could be attributed to the prevailing security situations in the area, following the recent gunmen attacks.

The CPC had earlier alleged that its agents in some wards were chased away from performing their accreditation in some polling units while voting materials were yet to reach many polling units considered CPC strongholds.

The party chairman Hon.Ibrahim Bappa Waziri, in a telephone conversation alleged that, “At Michika, the home town of the CPC candidate, General Buba Marwa, it was observed that in Thukudou/Sukufu/Zar wards comprising 14 polling units, only 200 ballot boxes were distributed by INEC instead of 1,000 ballot boxes earmarked for the polling units. While At Foru ward, also in Michika, comprising four polling units, INEC is said to have earmarked eight ballot boxes for the election, but only one ballot box was reportedly brought to one of the polling unit by INEC,’’ he alleged.

Meanwhile, the Police in Adamawa State has denied the arrest of Martins Babale, former House of Representatives member of PDP for alleged attempt to stuff ballot boxes, as CPC agents rejected plan to conduct secret voting in Guyuk LGA, as against the open secret voting system, as approved by INEC.

Babale was earlier reported to have been arrested by police with six ballot boxes ostensibly to be stuffed at Ganye 2 ward in Ganye LGA.

Speaking to Sunday Trust, the state’s Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Altine Daniel, denied that the former lawmaker was arrested. “No, it was not true that the ex-lawmaker was arrested,” she said.

“You know, a mild drama ensued in Ganye, when Taraba state governor Danbaba Suntai paid surprise visit on the eve of the election.  It was in that process that people started insinuating that there could be sinister moves. All I can say the Ganye issue is blatant lie,” she said.
