Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to participating in the forthcoming 22nd National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Ogun State from May 16 to 30, 2025.

Governor Fintiri expressed strong optimism that the state’s athletes will perform admirably and return with medals, showcasing the talent and resilience of Adamawa’s sportsmen and women.

The Governor made this known during the official reception of the Unity Torch of the National Sports Festival, which was led into the state by the Director of Athletics at the National Sports Commission, Mrs. Kiana Mbora. The ceremony took place at the main entrance of the Government House, Yola.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House Yola, Dr. Edgar Amos Sunday, Governor Fintiri emphasized the vital role sports play in national development, peacebuilding, and youth empowerment. He described sports as a unifying force that transcends ethnic, religious, and social boundaries, fostering national cohesion, discipline, and friendship among citizens.

He further revealed that his administration has invested heavily in the development of sports infrastructure across the state, including the ongoing completion of the new ultra-modern stadium along Numan Road, Jimeta. According to him, the facility is part of broader efforts to promote sports participation, nurture local talents, and position Adamawa as a key player in Nigeria’s sporting landscape.

“We believe in the power of sports to shape lives and inspire future generations. That is why we are building world-class facilities and creating platforms for our youth to thrive,” the Governor said through his representative.

In her remarks, the Director of Athletics, National Sports Commission, Mrs. Kiana Mbora, noted that the Unity Torch tour is a symbolic tradition that heralds the spirit of unity, peace, and healthy competition associated with the National Sports Festival. She stated that the visit to Adamawa State was to raise awareness and rally support for the festival, while acknowledging the state’s consistent commitment to sports development.

Mrs. Mbora commended the Adamawa State Government for putting in place necessary logistics and preparations to ensure a strong showing at the Ogun 2025 Sports Festival. She described the event as not only a celebration of sporting excellence but also a platform for national integration.

The Unity Torch continues its journey across the country, ahead of what promises to be an exciting and unifying sporting event in Ogun State.
