The Adamawa State Taskforce Committee on the Mitigation of Misuse of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and other health commodities has convened a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at addressing the diversion and misuse of the products at all levels.
Speaking during the meeting, the Director of Essential Drugs and Logistics, Pharmacist Ibrahim Talba, stressed the critical role of nutrition in healthcare delivery and emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in sensitisation and awareness campaigns.
He said such collaboration would ensure the proper utilisation of RUTF by caregivers and children under the age of five, noting that safeguarding RUTF and other essential health commodities is vital to achieving improved health outcomes in Adamawa State.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Sulaiman Saidu Bashir, said the committee was carefully constituted to include critical stakeholders from various sectors.

According to him, members of the committee include representatives of military and paramilitary agencies, market women associations, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Ministry of Health, as well as traditional and religious leaders.
Dr. Bashir stated that the objective of the meeting was to brainstorm and chart a way forward towards ensuring maximum security, accountability, and proper utilisation of health commodities across the state.
Presentations were delivered on strategies for strengthening protection, logistics, transportation, storage, and utilisation of RUTF and other essential supplies.
Stakeholders at the meeting made commitments and signed pledges to ensure the secure handling, monitoring, and community-level utilisation of RUTF and other health commodities in Adamawa State.
The meeting ended with a renewed resolve among stakeholders to safeguard nutrition interventions for children under five years of age.
Participants also pledged to provide security support and ensure the safety of logistics and distribution channels for the commodities across the state.
