The Adamawa state government under the leadership of his excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru has invested massively in infrastructural development in both the economic and social sector with the view of making the state have competitive and comparative advantages over its peers in the country in general and the northeast zone in particular. These interventions are meant to upgrade decaying or decayed infrstructure, provide new ones weher non exist before and generally open up the sate for investments. To ensure sustainability and continuity, and to also realise the potentials of the humongous financial investment by the state government, the government is embarking on the next phase of this journey – designing a Ten-Year Development Plan.

This phase of the journey begins with the development of a comprehensive Ten-year Strategic Plan to guide the sustainability of what has been done so far, and drive growth and development. On February 28, 2024, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri inaugurated the Adamawa State Development Plan Committee, appointing the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Barr. Awwal D. Tukur, as its chairperson. The committee’s mandate is to align the state’s development trajectory with the administration’s eight-point agenda, emphasizing grassroots benefits.

By January 15, 2025, the Adamawa State Planning Commission, led by Executive Chairman Dr. Mary Paninga, announced the commencement of the 10-year strategic development plan’s preparation. Dr. Paninga highlighted that planning is fundamental for any government’s success and that the commission is dedicated to formulating a plan that addresses the state’s developmental needs.

While the plan is still in development, the state government has initiated several projects aligned with its long-term goals. These include improvements in healthcare, infrastructure, education, and agriculture. For instance, the government approved a contract worth ₦431.6 million to install 30KVA hybrid solar systems in six cottage hospitals, enhancing healthcare delivery.

Additionally, the state has launched policies such as the “Dig-Once Policy” and the “Domain Migration Policy” to streamline infrastructure development and digital governance.

The 10-year development plan aims to provide a structured framework for sustainable growth, focusing on key sectors to improve the quality of life for Adamawa State residents. As the plan progresses, further details and specific initiatives are expected to be unveiled to the public. Such ambitious plan needs the buy-in of all stakeholders of the state.
