Adamu, the two-time governor of Nasarawa State and now senator of the Federal Republic, had accused Doma of being responsible for PDP’s loss of the state’s gubernatorial seat.
Keen observers of Nasarawa politics are not in any way surprised of his arguments are motivated by the desire to please his new found political godson, the incumbent governor of the state. It is in this light that Adamu’s remarks on Doma, should be discountenanced by all well-meaning individuals.
Adamu had also alleged that Doma was responsible for his travails with the EFCC when he said: ‘’we support people into leadership positions, but how they turn out could be very unfortunate. It is also ironical that a man who led the EFCC to you is also a visitor now, to the same EFCC.”
Adamu probably thinks that Nigerians have short memories. If the truth must be told, Adamu’s case with the EFCC commenced when Doma was barely three months in office as governor of the state. Adamu’s travails had its origins in the Farin Water hydroelectric project that he talked glibly about to journalists.
Adamu was being economical with the truth when he said: ‘’it came as a surprise that during the campaigns, the people rejected the idea of returning Akwe Doma as governor despite all my efforts for him and the party’’. This claim is apposite to dissect what transpired during the PDP primaries in the state and the elections that followed.
During the primaries when Adamu squared up with Senator Sodangi, the later was at the verge of picking the ticket when Doma eventually intervened on Adamu’s behalf by persuading party supporters to vote for Adamu. Even at that, Adamu won by the skin of his teeth.
At the poll, results for the senatorial election were hijacked by some desperate elements for several hours until Doma once again, intervened to save him from imminent political doom. That was not all as Doma ensured that his campaign was well funded, a development that made him have the last laugh over his opponent, Gen. Ahmed Aboki of the CPC.
During the campaigns for gubernatorial election, Doma appointed Adamu as the Zonal Chairman of his campaign and doubled for him whatever financial allocation that was given to other zonal coordinators of the campaign. Meanwhile, he was alleged to have said that Doma was not his candidate and as such, he would not support him. Imagine the high-level betrayal!
His statement that, “we are trying to re-organize PDP in Nasarawa state and in a short while we will return all the aggrieved members. The truth of the matter is that he has the desire to “capture” the leadership of the party in the state, preparatory to providing a platform for the incumbent governor to contest the 2015 governorship election.
Also, his claim that Doma abandoned the laudable programmes initiated by his government is neither here nor there. Majority of the projects that were paid for by his administration but abandoned either mid-stream or not even started at all were completed by Doma in order to save him from embarrassment. Such projects are: Nasarawa Eggon-Mada Station road; Doma-Akpanaja-Benue Border road; Kadarko-Giza-Keana road.
