A support group under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Grassroots Mobilization Network (GMN) has cautioned a Federal Capital Territory [FCT] High Court against actions that could plunge the country into political crisis, ahead of a pending case involving the party and Nafiu Bala.

Speaking on Saturday in Abuja, the group’s spokesperson, Mr. Peter Emeka, said the judiciary must not allow itself to be used to undermine democracy.

“The ruling party doesn’t want anyone on the ballot. The judiciary should not allow itself to be used for such ignominy,” Emeka said.

GMN urged the judiciary to act in the interest of justice and posterity, emphasizing the historical consequences of controversial judicial decisions.

“The Judiciary should live above board and strive to leave a legacy. They should remember those justices who aborted June 12 and the consequences they faced before they died,” he said.

On the subject of the suit, Emeka argued that the Supreme Court has already settled the matter, “All issues bordering on internal democracy have been severely dealt with by the Supreme Court. Lower courts should not entertain them again.”

The ADC and Nafiu Bala have been locked in a leadership tussle, with multiple suits filed in different courts. The latest case is expected to come up for hearing soon.
