African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant for Kano State, Aminu Anas Abdulrahman Warawa has cautioned the party to be careful about the cost it is selling forms so as not to appear like other political parties.

Warawa said the party can only survive to participate in the 2027 elections only if it applies different strategies from other parties.

He said, “One of the most troubling trends is the growing incidence of exorbitant fee for expression of interest and nomination forms . These costs have risen to levels that effectively shut out capable Nigerian who lack substantial financial resources.

“The problem has continued to send dangerous signal that political leadership is reserved for the highest bidders. The consequence is a steady erosion of the electorates willingness to engage in the democratic process including voters turn out.

He suggested that  the cost of nomination forms which has been set at N90 million for presidential  be brought down to N10 million; while the N30 million for governorship be reduced to N5 million; N2 million for Senate, N1 million  House of Representatives, and N500,000 for State Houses of Assembly.

 

He said if people continue to see the party as not being different from others it would not make the desired impact hence it is beholden on the ADC to be unique.

 

The aspirant said part of the measures the party can deploy is to crash the cost of its nominations so that the average politician can be given a chance to contest.
