The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared itself “unstoppable,” describing the party as “the sun of Nigeria” that cannot be prevented from rising.

This position was contained in the Secretariat report presented at the party’s 8th National Convention held in Abuja on Tuesday. The report was read by the National Secretary of the ADC, Rauf Aregbesola.

In the report, the party maintained that its existence is rooted in the will and aspirations of Nigerians, stressing that it does not owe its formation or survival to any individual, group, or institution.

According to the Secretariat, the ADC derives legitimacy from the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, which guarantees freedom of association, including the right to form or belong to a political party.

The report described the party as being on a “rescue mission” aimed at repositioning the country, while calling on citizens to support its efforts.

It also outlined the party’s recent internal developments, including the constitution of a caretaker leadership following decisions by its National Executive Committee (NEC). The caretaker committee, as listed in the report, includes former Senate President David Mark as Chairman, Aregbesola as National Secretary, and Bolaji Abdullahi as National Publicity Secretary, among other members.

On electoral matters, the ADC stated that it had fulfilled all legal requirements regarding the conduct of its convention and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to carry out its statutory responsibilities of monitoring party activities.

The party further reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its structures nationwide, noting that it has, within months of its reorganisation, strengthened its presence across the country.

The convention served as a platform for the party to review its activities, consolidate its structures, and outline its direction ahead of future electoral engagements.
