The factional leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe, has unveiled Prof. Chief Chris Uba as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The party said its presidential ticket was zoned to Southern Nigeria in line with the principles of federal character, equity, fairness and inclusiveness.

Speaking during the formal presentation of the party’s presidential and governorship candidates, Gombe said the candidates emerged through the party’s internal processes and in accordance with relevant electoral provisions.

According to him, three party members initially obtained the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the presidential race. They were Dr. Bashir Mohammed Sani, Prince Williams Charles and Prof. Chief Chris Uba.

Gombe said the party adopted the consensus option provided under the Electoral Act, adding that two aspirants later stepped down and endorsed Uba as the sole presidential candidate.

“Pursuant to this provision and in the interest of party unity, two of the party’s presidential aspirants voluntarily withdrew from the contest and endorsed Prof. Chief Chris Uba as the party’s sole presidential candidate,” he said.

He added that Uba had consequently emerged as the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 elections.

The ADC chairman also presented the party’s governorship candidates across 29 states, stating that they emerged through the party’s approved internal processes.

He further announced the conclusion of the party’s governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly primaries, describing the exercises as peaceful and transparent.

“In furtherance of our commitment to ensure full participation of the African Democratic Congress in the 2027 general elections by fielding credible, qualified and constitutionally compliant candidates across all elective positions, we are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of all our party primaries,” Gombe said.

He maintained that the process complied with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2026, the ADC Constitution and the party’s electoral guidelines.
