A former national vice chairman (North West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, has asked top leaders of the party to address the current challenges facing Nigerians or risk defeat in the 2027 general elections.

Addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, ahead of his book launch on ‘APC and Transition Politics in Nigeria’ slated for Tuesday, Lukman, a former Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) said the APC was envisioned to be progressive and should make Nigeria a better country.

He said Vice President Kashim Shettima; APC national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; governors; former national chairmen, John Odigie-Oyegun, Adams Oshiomhole; former governors and other critical stakeholders of the APC would be part of the launch.

Lukman said, “We really need to open up and engage our leaders in such a way that they don’t relapse back to the old ways of remaining in denial simply because they have won election, or we have won election.

“Nigerians are faced with challenges and these challenges are becoming more and more. Life is becoming more difficult. Our democracy must be responsive to the point that Nigerians can make a demand and elected leaders who listen to the demand will translate that into policies of government, or decisions of government in the way that begin to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

“We must appeal to our leaders that things are almost getting out of hand. The rate at which we are going under a party that is envisioned to be progressive, we are likely going to start witnessing rebellion and if care is not taken, by 2027, we will be kicked out of office, which means taking Nigeria back to where it was in 2015.
