In the keenly contested election held at the NUJ Press Centre at Utako, Kayode Adeniyi of the NTA Headquarters defeated incumbent Victor Iroele of Silverbird Television by 50 votes to 30 to emerge the new Chairman.

Martins Odiete of The Moment Newspaper defeated Ezeocha Nze of the Guardian Newspaper and incumbent Ernest Ohanesi of Kapital FM to become the new Secretary. Chidoka Ndubueze of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) was returned unopposed as Vice Chairman.

Mr. Bamidele Jones of News Agency of Nigeria (FRCN) was elected Treasurer, while Vincent Umeh of AIT/Daar Communications and Bunmi Haruna of ITV were returned unopposed as Financial Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has congratulated Mr. Adeniyi for his victory, and extends his hand of comradeship to the new leadership.

The minister, in a congratulatory message through the Director of Press in the National Sports Commission, Mr. Tony Ohaeri, urged the new SWAN leadership to join hand with him in the current efforts to take Nigerian sports to its appropriate position in the world.
