Leye Adenle’s debut novel, ‘Motion Tourist’, has made the list of The Guardian UK’s best recent crime novels.
‘Motion Tourist’ was listed in the Review Roundup of The Guardian, alongside ‘Different Class’, by Joanne Harris, ‘Girls on Fire’ by Robin Wasserman, ‘A Rising Man’ by Abir Mukherjee, and ‘Sockpuppet’ by Matthew Blakstad.
Adenle’s novel was described as another splendidly vivid portrayal of a city – Lagos. The reviewer, Laura Wilson, wrote: “I can’t imagine it’s one that the Nigerian tourist board would approve of: people are lawless, corrupt and stupidly violent, and that’s just the police. Here, the innocent abroad is British journalist Guy Collins, who is on his first foreign trip when he stumbles upon the mutilated body of a woman outside a bar. He attracts the attention both of the authorities and of beautiful Amaka, unofficial social worker to the city’s prostitutes, who is trying to stop the clandestine trade in body parts. Fast and furious, told from a kaleidoscope of different points of view, it’s a rollercoaster ride through a world of extremes, where everything is up for grabs.”
The novel, ‘Motion Tourist’ was published and released earlier this year by Cassava Republic. It has so far received international acclaim.
