Adetutu’ by Adedoyin Adetutu has won the creative non-fiction category at the African Writers Awards 2021.
The short story was adjudged winner at the African Writers Awards 2021 and the Wakini Kuria Prize for Children’s Literature 2021 in Dar es Salam, Tanzania.
Adetutu got an award prize of $100.
A statement released by the chief judge, Anthony Onugba during the 2021 African Writers Conference commended the judges for their roles in ensuring the success of the event.
The judges were Gankhanani Moffat Moyo (Zambia), Sabah Carrim (Mauritius), Nabilah Usman (Nigeria), Comfort Nyati, SDB (Zimbabwe), Temani Nkalolang (Botswana), Halieo Motanyane (Lesotho) and Namse Udosen (Nigeria).
Also, another Nigerian, Stephanie Chizoba Odili, with her ‘Tea Time with Tito’ took second place in the Wakini Kuria Award for Children’s Literature. She got an award prize of $100. ‘The Millionaire Orphan’ by Makhago Peter (Uganda) took the first place with an award prize of $150 in the Wakini Kuria Award for Children’s Literature, while ‘The Enchanted Pen’ by Nathaniel Z. Mpofu (Zimbabwe) came third with an award prize of $50.
Other winners in different categories are African Writers Awards for Drama ($100), ‘Eating with Chopsticks’ by Gordon, B. Away (Kenya) while the African Writers Awards for Poetry ($100) goes to ‘In the Grave of the Brave’ by Clara Wanjira Kariuki (Kenya).
