Grace Adeyinka of Ekiti Golf Club emerged the best gross champion at the 10th Western Zone Open Golf Championship, which ended on Sunday at the Crosscreek Golf Club, Ilado, Akure.

Adeyinka returned a gross score of 270 over three days to outplay 45 other golfers in the ladies’ handicap 0–18 category. Overjoyed by her victory, she said the course was demanding but she was pleased with her performance.

“With just one ball lost, I’m proud of myself and my teammates; we did well,” she said.

The tournament, organised by the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), Western Zone, drew 130 participants—60 female and 70 male golfers—from clubs across the country.

Vice President of the zone, Evelyn Balogun, praised the golfers for their resilience despite tough weather conditions, stressing that the event was not just about victory but also about discipline and values.

“This tournament celebrates perseverance, camaraderie, and the quiet strength of every woman golfer,” she said.

Balogun added: “My role was to support, organise, and lead a team of resilient and enthusiastic lady golfers.”

Also speaking, LGAN President Evelyn Oyome, represented by Joyce Nule, congratulated the golfers and called for unity in future events. She applauded the lady captains and participants for their leadership and vision in promoting women’s golf.

Captain of Crosscreek Golf Club, Isaac Shedowo, equally commended the players for fair play throughout the four-day championship.
