The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has charged the management of the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State to strictly adhere by rules and regulations guiding admission policies of the school, while seeking out ways for the school to be self-sustaining.
The IGP, who made the call Friday while commissioning several projects in the school, stressed the need to maintain the set standards and diversify the academic pursuits in the academy.
“We should be thinking of engineering, medicine, science-based studies, technology-based studies. And in that way, we will be well diversified and be self-sustaining and also producing the workforce needed.
“You also need to look at self-sustainability. You cannot always expect everything from the government. You have all it takes to generate revenue. The land here can give you animal husbandry, farming etc to achieve self-sustainability,” he said, while lauding the achievements recorded within a short period of posting the new commandant to the academy.
Speaking earlier, the new commandant, AIG Sadiq Abubakar, said while the academy had received immense support from the police, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), the institution was still battling with shortage of academic and directing staff, inadequate funding, need for upgrading of academic library and also shortage of staff quarters, among others.
Daily Trust Saturday reports that the IGP, who had earlier commissioned a police barracks and new police station at Ringim, Jigawa State, also commissioned 10 projects in the police academy, Wudil, including administrative building, information communication technology (ICT) building, CBN auditorium, digital forensic laboratory, indoor shooting range, as well as postgraduate hostels.
