Adoke stated this last week during a valedictory session at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja when legal practitioners converged to pay their last respects to the school’s former Director General, late Chief John Kayode Jegede (SAN) who died last April.
Mr. Adoke said he received the news of the death with shock owing to the contributions and sacrifices Chief Jegede made for the promotion of legal education in the country.
Former Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Alfa Belgore also recalled his relation with late Chief Jegede during the military era of late General Sani Abacha.
He described the deceased as a brother who showed commitment to his duties.
According to the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Mr. Olanrewaju Onadeko, and the chair of the Council for Legal Education, Chief O.C.J Okocha SAN, “Chief John Kayode Jegede was a quintessential administrator, who rose from the position of Secretary of the Council of Legal Education to the position of the Director General of the Nigerian Law School.”
They noted that the history of the Nigerian Law School and the legal profession in Nigeria would not be complete without the name of Chief Jegede.
Dignitaries at the event were Chief Olu Falae, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and justices of the Supreme Court among others.
