According to the Central Working Committee of Programme, the coaches that handled the athletes at their Nigerian Army Sports Camp, Myoung Barrack, Somolu, Lagos, have submitted the list of outstanding athletes for adoption by sponsors.
The criteria to be met by the athletes before they can be considered good enough are: skills, attitude, behaviour, interaction with other athletes and composure outside the training ground.
Coordinating Consultant of the programme, Dr.Niran Adeniji, the list of the successful athletes will be released after the organizers must have had a meeting with parents and guardians of such athletes.
“We are going to have a meeting with the athletes’ parents and guardians before releasing the list of those of them who are successful in the 14-day screening exercise that took place last month. This meeting is to enable us seek their consent before we start to allocate the athletes to their would-be-sponsors,” Adeniji said.
According to him, the athletes who took part in the close camping have continued training in the six sports of the programme at an open camp with a view to ensuring that the skills and momentum gained are sustained and they maintain their good shapes.
