Philip Aduda, Senator who represented the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the 9th Senate, visited the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, on Tuesday.

Aduda, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a couple of hours ago, is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

He was accompanied by the Chairman-elect of Kuje Area Council.

In a resignation letter dated March 17, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Karu Ward in Abuja, the former Senate Minority Leader stated that his resignation was effective immediately.

While the letter cited persistent internal crisis within the PDP as his reason for leaving, it did not explicitly name his next political destination.

However, his appearance at the APC headquarters appears to confirm speculations from close associates who told our correspondent that a formal defection to the ruling party is expected in the coming days.

Since his defeat in the 2023 general elections by the incumbent, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Aduda has frequently been seen working closely with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in various unofficial capacities.

Sources suggest that the FCT Minister may have influenced Aduda’s move to the APC to position him for a Senate run in the 2027 general elections.

Wike has publicly criticized Senator Kingibe’s performance on several occasions, claiming her perceived “distance” from her constituents will prevent her from returning to the Red Chamber.

Aduda’s exit marked a significant blow to the PDP in the FCT, where he served as a dominant political figure for over a decade.

His move to the APC signals a major realignment within the federal capital’s political landscape as the ruling party looks to solidify its grip on the territory ahead of the next election cycle.
