Senator Philip Aduda  representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called on youth and women in the territory to remain in Nigeria and avoid taking the risk of travelling abroad to seek for jobs.

Aduda made the call at a sensitization and awareness programme he organised for youths and women on marketable skills in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) held in Bwari on Tuesday.

He said the programme was to sensitise both the youth and women across the six area councils of the FCT on the dangers of irregular migration. 

He said the awareness campaign would enable them to also know the hazards in human trafficking, noting that the recent incident where some Nigerians who were trying to get to Europe through the desert and across the Mediterranean Sea lost their lives should be an eye opener.

“So I think the best way to discourage our youths and women in the FCT is to collaborate with NAPTIP to create awareness that there is hope here in Nigeria, “ he said.

Aduda, said the second phase of the programme, which would also come up next week, will cover Abaji, Kuje and Gwagwalada area councils, adding that all the participants would be given some financial support to start businesses of their choice.
