Our attention has been drawn to your news report with the title Power privatization must be reversed-Senators, published in Daily Trust of Thursday, May 25, 2017, in which you reported on Page 5 that Abuja Disco, owned by Ambassador Shehu Malami….

We wish to draw your attention to the fact that your claim is not only untrue but also has a tendency to create wrong impression in the minds of our investors, clients, customers and other stakeholders, in addition to misleading the undiscerning members of the public.

To set the records straight, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) Plc is owned by KANN Consortium (60%), which was established through a partnership between Copperbelt Electricity Corporation (CEC) Africa and Xerxes Global Investment (XGI) Nigeria, as well as the Federal Government of Nigeria-FGN (40%).

Furthermore, Ambassador Shehu Malami, OFR, CON (Sarkin Sudan Na Wurno) is one of the Nigerian shareholders as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors of AEDC Plc.

We, therefore, request that you quickly publish this rejoinder to correct the false information in that edition of your newspaper, in view of the wrong impression it could create.

Ahmed I. Shekarau, Head, Public Relations & Media, AEDC.
