The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) has arraigned over 1,000 defaulters of the provisions of its waste disposal bill before mobile courts in various locations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Also arraigned were those who failed to obtain waste disposal bins in their houses

At a hearing in Abuja, the Chief State Council with the AEPB, Mr Arome Tukula, said the defaulters were arrested within the city centre.

He said the defaulters contravened AEPB Act No 10, Section 30, Sub-section 4, adding that the defaulters were liable to three months imprisonment with an option of fine.

On his part, counsel to some of the defaulters, Agbaje Ochai, admitted his clients’ failure to paying their waste disposal bill and pleaded out-of-court settlement.

Addressing newsmen on the development, the Director of AEPB, Alhaji Kaka Ali, said the defaulters included those who had refused to acquire bins for the evacuation of waste within the nation’s capital city.

Alhaji Kaka said the defaulters were arrested in Wuse, Garki, Maitama, Asokoro and other major areas within the city centre.
