Cooker stated this during a press conference held at the Women Centre, weekend in Abuja. He said the fertiliser will be made available before the planting season through their 109 distributors and dealers across the states.
“The Growth Enhancement Scheme should cover AFAN fertilisers named Farmers’ Fertiliser, Farmers’ Herbicides, Farmers’ Pesticides, power tillers and other agricultural inputs which shall later on hit our local markets,” he said.
Femi stressed that the current repositioning exercise in AFAN is to discourage politicisation in the association, adding that politicians should stop politicizing agriculture.
“There should not be politicisation in the course of our responsibilities as farmers. Basically, farmers are food providers, members of homogenous community, not politicians.
“Whether you are a Yoruba cassava or maize farmer or Hausa–Fulani herdsmen or Igbo oil palm farmer, fish farmer from Ijaw and farmers from other ethnic groups, all of us are food providers, whose recognition is attached to farming,” Cooker said.
