AFCON: Onuachu in as Sadiq succumbs to injury

Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq has reportedly suffered an injury and will not be able to represent Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.

According to reports, the languid striker suffered a knee injury during the friendly match against Guinea and has not been able to train with the Super Eagles as they prepare for their first match on Sunday.

The 26-year-old has missed two training sessions and is expected to return to his club to undergo treatment.

The Real Sociedad striker is the latest Eagle to suffer injury ahead of the 34th AFCON tournament.

His exit means Nigeria is left with only Victor Osimhen as the recognized striker until Terem Moffi and Kelechi Iheanacho- who can play upfront- arrive in Ivory Coast.

However, Paul Onuachu, 29 years old Trabzonspor forward, is set to replace Sadiq in the 25-man Nigerian contingent.

Sadiq joins Taiwo Awoniyi, Wilfed Ndidi and Victor Boniface on the list of knackered Eagles set to watch their colleagues from home.

Super Eagles will face Equatorial Guinea in their opening fixture on Sunday afternoon in Abidjan.
