AFDB, women farmers partner on agric transformation

The African Development Bank (AFDB) and the Uplifting Women Through Farming (UWTF) have announced partnership aimed at transforming agriculture in Africa.
At a press briefing in Lagos, the president, UWTF, Mrs Afoma Clara Adigwe, said the partnership between her group and AFDB is geared towards attracting positive gains from agricultures.
“The main purpose of this press conference is to give briefing on the positive gains and future benefits from the action plan on the transformation of agriculture in Africa.
“UWTF in partnership with African Development Bank is ready to take a quick action on the solutions of transforming agriculture in Africa to the next level,” Adigwe said.
While making reference to the recent Dakar conference in Senegal, where participants engaged in what was termed “bold decisions to inform on the Action Plan for Agricultural Transformation in Africa,” Adigwe said the commitment expressed will go a long way in achieving the set objective of feeding the continent.
She further said part of expectations of women farmers in Africa is to see to the actualisation of Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa as well as leveraging on a $300 million facility which AFDB is expected to make available to them.
In a speech read on his behalf, President of AFDB Akinwunmi Adesina, said the financial institution has a bold plan to achieve agricultural transformation across Africa through agricultural productivity.
