The pan Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, Friday challenged the federal government to take prompt action against the alleged sponsors of terrorism even as it stated that “no concrete steps are seen to have been taken by the government to tackle the roots of the problem.”
The National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Jare Ajayi, in a statement insisted that government should deal with the alleged sponsors rather than just periodically announcing the efforts it was making in combating the menace of terrorism.
The group spoke in response to the revelation by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that the federal government had identified 96 sponsors of terrorism and 156 firms linked to terrorism financing.
“Indeed, the failure of the government to act decisively in this respect has emboldened the terrorists to be more daring leading to the death of thousands of people and capturing of many communities particularly in the northern part of the country by the terror groups.”
Ajayi said the disclosure by Borno State Governor Babangana Zulum that the Islamic West Africa Province (ISWAP) was about taking over Nigeria not only attested to the above claim, but should be a serious reason for concern.
