The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has accepted the blame for the Athletics Integrity Unit’s decision to disqualify 10 Nigerian athletes from competing at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics due to uncompleted Out of Competition Tests (OCTs).

This was contained in a press statement signed by its factional president, Tonobok Okowa who has now appointed Prof. Ken Anugweje as the Head of the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission of the Federation

“The AFN bears responsibility for any lapses that may have occurred during the process and reassures Nigerians that our performances will not be negatively impacted,” the statement said.

In the same vein, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports has said it regrets the disqualification of the athletes in a statement which was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and Chef de Mission of Team Nigeria, Nebelosa Anako.

“The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development regrets the unfortunate development of 10 Nigerian Track and Field athletes not meeting the testing conditions of the Athletics Integrity Unit,” the statement read.
