Kunle held auditions for the movie on June 6th, 2013 in Lagos. The movie as speculated will cost N314 million ($2 million). ’October 1 is a movie that is set in 1960, against the backdrop of Nigeria’s independence. The movie can be classified as a serial killer movie. One of the key sponsors for the movie is the Lagos State Government.
It’s a movie detailing the activities of a northern police detective, Dan Waziri, who was posted to the Western Region to unravel the mystery behind series of female murders in the community.
Dan soon discovers that the prime suspect is the prince of the community. Waziri, however, does not have plenty of time on his hands, as he is expected to bring the prince to book before the Nigerian flag is raised on October 1.
The movie will be shot in Nigeria under the stable of Afolayan’s production company, Golden Effects. The movie will be casting four British actors, David Bailei, Collin David Reese, Lawrence Stubbings and Nick Rhys.
Afolayan told Weekend Magazine that “’October 1st’ is going to be one of the biggest productions which Nollywood will see in 2013. We already have a key sponsor which is the Lagos State Government. We have the finest and the best people in this movie to best interpret the message the movie is trying to pass to the society. It has taken me a lot of planning and research and we are sure it is going to be a hit when it’s finally completed and released.”
Afolayan, who has directed and produced three films which ware well widely acclaimed in the society, namely ‘Irapada’, ‘Figurine’ and ‘Phone Swap’. His fourth hopes to be well acclaimed as his previous movies.
