A statement says the signing event took place in Port Harcourt on October 12, this year and was presided over by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Marcus Nle Ejii, representing the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi.

Hon. Marcus said the partnership was part of Governor Amaechi’s vision to promote arts and culture in the state as a key component of his economic development agenda. He added that Rivers State, renowned for its rich heritage in arts and culture, is the perfect venue to host the Africa International Film Festival, which will also help in achieving the state’s developmental objectives amongst the youths.

Chioma Ude, Founder and CEO of AFRIFF said; “We’re thrilled to have Rivers State as the host for this important festival because it sends a clear message about their vision to be an African centre of excellence for arts and culture.” She added that such a project will be leveraged to positively impact on young Nigerians talent in the film-making industry.

Mrs Ude also conveyed her appreciation for the support from the media, for their contribution to ensure the success of the project.

As part of activities running up to the Festival, AFRIFF has opened Screen Writing Labs in Universities across the country to enable aspiring screen writers gain intensive support in the techniques of developing visual stories that can be realized into world standard productions. The first was held in Jos in September.

Meanwhile, preparations are on for the film festival which will hold in Port Harcourt from the 1st to 5th of December, to be attended by local and international film-makers, celebrities, actors, directors, film buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, amateurs, film lovers and the media at large.
