Africa’s policy makers, scientists tasked on food security

He gave the advice during the African Agricultural Technology Foundation’s annual review and planning meeting on the Pod Borer Resistant (PBR) Cowpea project in Ghana.  He said there is need to eliminate the differences between politicians and scientists.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Project Manager of the PBR Cowpea Project, Dr Prince Addae said one of the goals of the project which is being implemented in Nigeria, Ghana and Burkina-Faso is to introduce BT trait into farmers varieties after trials have shown proof of the concept in controlling  maruca, a pest that infests cowpea. Also speaking, the Managing Director, Maina Seeds Limited based in Kano, said the PBR cowpea will help alleviate the problems farmers face with maruca, boost cowpea production and seed companies in Africa.
