According to the Creative Director of the initiative, Peace Anyam-Osigwe, the fiesta is programmed to be a five-day event beginning from December 1st, 2010 to the 5th. It is proposed to become an annual event which will engage “‘global filmmakers on Africa’s soil, comprising film screenings in cinemas, a technical training series aimed at raising local industry standards; business sessions and networking opportunities; film exhibition and the launch of a unique Film and Equipment market that will encourage and grow content and equipment trade out of Africa and form global partnerships.”
Qualifications for entries which closed for participation in the festival on August 31st included feature films, short films, documentaries and animations, produced after January 1, 2009 with preference given to those not yet viewed internationally or locally.  This edition themed ‘Africa Unites’, according to organisers will bring together stake holders in the movie-making industry including local and international film makers, celebrities, actors, directors, film buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, amateurs, film lovers and the media to showcase Africa’s motion picture achievements. With the event gaining global recognition, the AFFRIFF team expresses their desire for the film industry in Africa to compete favourably with its global peers and so we are activating a comprehensive communications strategy with a global outlook that will achieve sensitisation across the world. AFRIFF is a platform that seeks to give expression to the players in the African film sector by recognising and rewarding excellence in the industry.
