African countries under the Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA) and a few other non-members have met in Abuja to improve the quality and relevance of Technical Vocational Educational Training (TVET).

 The conference was on ‘Enhancing Technical Capacity and Partnership for Industrial Development.’

 Speaking to journalists at a media briefing in Abuja, the Secretary General of CAPA, Olubunmi Nwoso of the Technical University of Kenya said the meeting was particularly interested in the industrial development of African countries. 

 He said: “African countries are consuming a lot of goods and services manufactured in foreign countries and we have little value for our natural resources.” 

Also speaking, the Chairman of Council of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria, Mas’ud Elelu, said for African countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, (SDGs), they have to leverage on technical competence from the various technical institutions
