The 2025 African Food & Drinks Festival (AFDF) commenced its Abuja celebrations with an impactful opening day at the Shehu Musa Yarádua Centre, where over 200 delegates gathered for the African Food Summit & Expo in Abuja, Nigeria on November 14, 2025.
The summit set the tone for the festival’s three-day showcase with compelling conversations around African food culture, policy, and identity, all under the 2025 theme, “United by Food.”
The Day 1 programme brought together a distinguished lineup of speakers including Mr. Obi Asika, Director-General/CEO of the National Council for Arts and Culture; Brian Nwana, renowned food, travel, and lifestyle creator and Guinness World Record holder; and Sammy Adigun, Executive Chairman of Niger Food Limited.
Across keynote sessions and panel discussions, speakers emphasized the transformative power of African cuisine in cultural diplomacy, tourism, creative economy expansion, and youth empowerment. Exhibitors from across the food value chain also showcased innovative products and services, turning the Yarádua Centre into a lively hub of culinary creativity.
Attendees were treated to an exclusive screening preview of United by Food, a documentary produced by the African Food Network (AFN), highblighting food as a unifying force among African nations and the diaspora.
The opening day reinforced AFDF’s growing impact as a platform for continental dialogue and collaboration, using food not just as culture, but as a strategy.
The 2025 edition of the African Food & Drinks Festival was proudly supported by Kuda as the headline sponsor, alongside Sensation, Elixir Plus, Imperial Blue, Malta Guinness, and Air Peace. Their partnership played a vital role in delivering a world-class celebration of African cuisine and culture.
