Western Sahara is a disputed territory in North Africa under Moroccan occupation. Making the call while briefing newsmen in Abuja Monday, Nahibi said African leaders need to mount pressure on Morocco to organize a referendum on Western Sahara.
She said WAELE/ARCELFA had organized an International Conference in September 2011 with the theme: “The Struggles of Western Sahara Women for Freedom” held in Abuja which was attended by 42 countries and the former representative of the UN Secretary General to Western Sahara, Ambassador Frank Ruddy of USA, who delivered the keynote address.
Nahibi along with Noorjahan Akbar and Paul Rusesabagina were nominated as the three panellists to present papers at the Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson’s “A World of Women for World Peace” slated for October 28 in Washington DC, United States. WAELE/ARCELFA is an organization working for full participation of women in economic decision making and governance of Africa and is currently represented in 46 African countries.
