The African Youth Commission in partnership with the Voice of Orphans Africa Diaspora Initiative (VOADI), Women Education Advocacy and Development Initiative (WEADI) and the FCT Administration, recently organised a carnival to celebrate orphans.

President and founder of VOADI, Tunde Okokoro, said the essence of the carnival was to give orphans a sense of belonging on children’s day.

Mr Okokoro called on the Nigerian government to be intentional about catering to the needs of orphans in the country.

WEADI president, Dr Regina Omo-Agege, who was at the event, said she was excited to celebrate with the children.

Children at the event were drawn from Alpha and Omega Orphanage; Hope for the Hopeless Orphanage; St Jonas Foundation, Gifted & Talented Orphanage, amongst others.

Highlights of the event include a spelling bee competition, free medical tests, dancing and singing competitions, amongst others.
