They are part of a select group of 100 youth leaders from across the African continent attending a three day consultation with the theme, “Silencing the Guns: Youth building a culture of democracy and peace in Africa” in Nairobi, Kenya.
The consultation was part of the celebration of this year’s International Democracy Day with the theme “Engaging young people on Democracy”.
In a statement released yesterday by the African Union (AU), the consultation was convened under the Union’s African Governance Architecture and Platform.
According to the statement the youth seek to end violent conflicts in Africa by strengthening democratic governance institutions and inculcating a culture of peace democracy.
The statement further said the objective of the consultation is to tap into the creativity, passion and entrepreneurial spirit of young people in Africa to address governance challenges and deepen democratic governance on the continent.
The consultation, according to the statement, is borne out of realization by the African Union that strengthening democratic governance and attaining sustainable peace and development can only be sustained by the active and meaningful engagement of young people.
