Africa’s digital health investment is projected to grow to $16.6 billion by 2030, driven by rapid adoption of technology across hospitals, laboratories and healthcare systems on the continent.

According to a report released ahead of the World Health Expo (WHX) in Lagos, digital health investments in Africa reached $3.8 billion in 2023 and are expected to expand at an annual growth rate of 23.4 per cent over the next five years.

In a statement, the organisers of the expo said the increasing adoption of digitisation is transforming healthcare delivery across Africa by improving diagnosis, reducing operational costs and expanding access to quality care.

“Digitisation in African healthcare is delivering real results: hospitals are centralising data, cutting administrative overheads and keeping patient journeys intact, from their first doctor’s visit through to their follow-up,” the statement read.

It added that healthcare facilities across the continent are increasingly deploying integrated electronic health records, AI-assisted imaging and smart laboratory systems to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.

“From operating rooms in Lagos to rural clinics in Kigali, hospitals are leveraging technology to transform healthcare delivery, enabling more accurate diagnoses, reducing operational costs, and extending quality care to previously underserved communities,” the statement added.
