The 2018 Women in Energy Conference, a dynamic interactive side event of the African Energy Indaba (AEI) will hold February 19, 2018 in Johannesburg, South Africa. 

A statement from the organisers said the 4th annual conference is designed to aid an increase in leadership and the development of women involved in the African energy space. 

“This one-day forum will provide a platform for advancing and promoting talented women within the energy sector,” the statement issued by the spokesperson, Thembisa Bambathi, said.

It cited the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) which establishes a gender gap in leadership as women make up only five per cent of board executives across the global power and utilities sector. 

The Women in Power and Utilities Index (2016) it said, tracked the number of women in the boardrooms of the world’s largest utilities in revenue, and it was established that there are 16 per cent women on power and utilities boards, with progress at an extremely slow increase of only one per cent over three years.

It said this year’s event will facilitate an interactive hub that gives leading women within the energy sector on the continent and beyond, the opportunity to network, share knowledge and achievements with fellow women.
