Afrijet, a regional airline in Gabon, has extended flight operations to Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

This was the first time the airline would be operating to the oil-rich community with two weekly flights between its base of Libreville (Gabon) and Port Harcourt International Airport (Nigeria).

The inaugural flight, which touched down last week, was conducted on an ATR 72-600 which can accommodate eight passengers in business class and 54 in economy class.

Departures to Port Harcourt are scheduled on Tuesday and Friday at 9:15pm and 3:30pm, while return flights are available on Wednesdays and Fridays, arriving in the Gabonese capital at 12:30pm and 7:15pm, according to the airline.

The Port Harcourt flight which takes one hour and 15 minutes to Libreville, also offers passengers direct connections to Douala, Pointe-Noire, Port-Gentil, Malabo and ultimately Johannesburg.

The airline stated that the launch of the route would ease the movement of personnel from the oil sector, businessmen and members of the Nigerian diaspora living in Central Africa.

It also simplifies commercial and cultural exchanges by providing a direct link between two key regions for the oil and gas industry.

Starting from the summer 2025 season (April 2025), the airline will further strengthen its presence in West Africa with two additional frequencies to Port Harcourt, bringing the total to four weekly flights in each direction.

After introducing service to Port Harcourt, the next destination to benefit from a direct link to Libreville is Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, which would operate every Wednesday in both directions with effect from February 19, 2025, while the frequencies would be increased to three by April 2025.

General Director of the airline, Nyl Moret-Mba, said the new connections would deepen ties between Nigeria and Central Africa.
