The president and founder of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), Mike Dada, says the record number of entries received for the 2025 edition reflects the growing global acceptance of African music and culture.
Speaking at the Patrons Dinner with the Jury in Lagos, Dada revealed that AFRIMA received an all-time high of 10,717 entries this year, the highest in the organisation’s history.
“It means the music is getting popular globally. It means Africa is being accepted, and people see it as a measure of expression. It also shows that people understand what AFRIMA stands for and what it represents for the continent,” he said.
Dada, who hosted members of the AFRIMA jury currently in Lagos for the adjudication process, said the panel’s composition was reviewed every five years to bring in fresh perspectives based on geography, career, expertise and generation.

“There are new faces within the jury itself, younger and older people, to infuse different experiences. The mood has been fantastic and the camaraderie is stronger than ever. They ask tough questions about their decisions and processes before leading to nominations, which will be announced on August 24,” he added.
