FIBA Africa brings to you group-by-group analysis and preview as the count-down to the first jump-ball gets nearer and today the focus will be on Group-A which is made-up of four strong nations who are set to out-wit one another (Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria, Mali).

The group is made up of Nigeria, considered as the strongest of all four teams in the group, Nigeria is one of Africa strongest basketball playing nation and second most ranked Africa country behind Angola. Mali the other top team in the group is expected to pose a real threat to Nigeria ambition of topping the group Mali lost to Nigeria in the second round of the 2009 edition of the championship in Benghazi, Libya and would look forward to avenge that defeat in Madagascar. Mozambique is another country that cannot be over looked in this year’s Afrobasket having qualified from FIBA Africa Zone-6 while little is known about host Madagascar but they are surely out to spring some surprises in the group.

The FIBA Africa Zone-7 nation will be banking on it home support to see them through the first round stage.
