The Nigerian Army has bankrolled the medical expenses of an eight-month-old boy, Abdulrazak Taufik Ogunjimi, the son of a soldier, who has been suffering from atrial septal defect since birth.
Daily Trust had, on September 2, reported how three holes were discovered in the boy’s heart at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
His father, Taufik Ogunjimi, a low-ranking soldier attached to Rukuba Barrack in Jos, had said he could not afford the medical treatment.
The mother of the patient, Ummu Kulsum Muhammad, subsequently cried out for help.

The Nigerian Army offered to sponsor the treatment of the boy in Turkey.
Ummu Kulsum appreciated the army for its support.
She said, “I almost lost hope at the beginning because the family could not bear the medical expenses.
“The Nigerian Army has since taken the responsibility of the medical expenses. I want to thank the Chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who listened to our plight and acted swiftly.
“We are taking off by 9:pm today (Monday). The Nigerian Army has taken all the expenses relating to the treatment,” the mother added.
