Following their shock 3-2 win over one of Africa’s top team, Ghana, Comoros are already dreaming of causing another upset by reaching their first World Cup finals.
It will be recalled the island nation on Tuesday who are making their debut in Africa’s flagship football competition and were recognized by FIFA in 2005 are full of confidence of making the trip to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup in December 2022, according to head coach, Amir Abdou, who has been in charge since 2014
“I believe it’s possible that this team can have a World Cup qualification. We had nothing to lose and now we have to hold onto hope because mathematically, it is still possible,” he said.
Comoros, rated 132nd in the world, are the third lowest-ranked side of the 24 teams in Cameroon for the tournament.
Comoros, representing a tiny island nation off the south east coast of Africa, finished third and must wait until today to know if they are among the best four third-placed teams, who get last 16 spots.
