Again, 2 ‘One Chance’ suspects escape mob action in Abuja
Barely 24 hours after two suspected “one chance” robbers were rescued from a mob by the police in Utako district of Abuja, another two suspects were apprehended on Friday along the Kubwa expressway.
A witness said the incident occurred around 3:48 pm when a lady boarded a black Volkswagen Golf at Tipper Garage, heading toward Kubwa town. According to the witness, the lady was seated in the back seat between two young men who began struggling for her handbag while the vehicle was in motion.
Despite the danger, the lady resisted the suspects until the driver suddenly veered off the road and crashed into a nearby bush, drawing the attention of other motorists.
“The way the Golf was swerving on the road quickly attracted attention. Eventually, the driver lost control of the steering and crashed into the bush,” said James Bala, another witness at the scene.
Bala added that motorists and motorcyclists rushed to the vehicle and found the lady, who narrated her ordeal to her rescuers.
While the driver of the vehicle managed to flee into the bush immediately after the crash, the two passengers were apprehended and handed over to security operatives.
Abuja Metro reports that this incident follows a similar occurrence on Thursday, where two “one chance” suspects narrowly escaped mob action in the Utako area of Abuja.
Those suspects, identified as Kefas Akaye and Uya Ugwowere, were rescued by operatives of the Utako Police Division from some people, who wanted to lynch them.
The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the previous incident and strongly condemned the act of jungle justice. She warned that such actions undermine the rule of law and risk the loss of innocent lives.
SP Adeh emphasized that members of the public should always report suspicious activities to the nearest police station rather than taking the law into their own hands.
She reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the territory, adding that investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
