A state high court has again denied bail to a politician, A.A. Lawan Uba, who has been in remand for more than 30 days for allegedly insulting Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State.
A.A. lawan Uba has been in remand after being accused of sharing videos in which he accused the governor of betraying those who helped him to win election. The video also berated the governor for allegedly working against the interest of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
At a resumed hearing on Tuesday at the high court, the judge adjourned the case to Thursday to allow the prosecution prepare for presentation two compact discs containing evidence.
Lead counsel to the defendant, Desmond Adebole, who appeared alongside nine other lawyers, told newsmen that it was unfortunate that the court refused his client bail even when the offence was bailable.
He argued that the comments made by his client were not defamatory and that if the court continued to deny him bail they would head to the Court of Appeal.
Counsel for the prosecution, Barrister Abdurrahman Iliyasu, declined comment.
