An aged mother, Hajiya Abu Haruna and her 50-year-old son, Alhaji Yakubu Haruna have been severely injured by suspected armed robbers at Babawa, a sub-urban area in Gezawa local government area of Kano state.
Hajiya Haruna almost 75 was stabbed with a knife while her son sustained gun-shot injury on his lower limb when persons suspected to be armed robbers intruded into his compound around 3:15am yesterday.
When our correspondent visited Murtala Mohhmed Specialist Hospital where the elderly woman was admitted she was in the theatre undergoing some surgical operations from the injuries sustained.
Lawan Sarka who spoke for the family told our reporter that Yakubu, his elder brother was shot on his lower limb and was undergoing treatment at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase specialist Hospital, Nasarawa.
“Around 3:15am, today (Wednesday) there was a sporadic gun-shot in our family compound and before we could rush out to see what was actually happening, the gunmen had fled and my mother has been severely injured while my elder brother Yusuf shot on his leg”.
He said because of the nature of the injuries the family could not report the incident to the police immediately until the victims had been taken to the hospital.
Confirming the incident Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Kano state police command, DSP Magaji Musa Majia said no life was lost in the incident, saying that the victims have already been treated and are successfully responding to the treatment.
‘’The case was reported at Gezawa police station around 10am this morning that the suspected armed robbers came on a boxer motorcycle at 3:15am and entered the compound of one Alhaji Yakubu Hamisu Haruna aged 50 for suspected robbery but the man resisted their advances in the process they shot him with cartridges on his right leg and his mother, Hajiya Abu Hamisu Haruna was stabbed with a knife on her hand.
‘’Though no arrest has so far been made, but the State Police Commissioner, CP Rabi’u Yusuf has already directed the DCP investigations to deploy personnel to the area for investigation and possible arrest of the perpetrators of the act” Majia confirmed.
