Nigerian dance icon Buddy Doubara Agedah has outlined his ambitious vision for the future of dance, reiterating his commitment to using the art form as a powerful tool for economic growth, cultural exchange, and social transformation both within Nigeria and globally.

He revealed this in a statement yesterday, sharing his plans to further expand his festival, training programs, and advocacy initiatives.

“My dream is to create a thriving ecosystem where Nigerian dancers can flourish, not just at home but on the global stage. Dance has the power to transform lives, foster unity, and build economies, and I want Nigeria to be at the forefront of this movement,” Agedah stated.

Central to his vision is the expansion of the West Africa Afro-Latin Dance Festival, a major cultural event he founded in 2012. Agedah emphasized his goal of attracting an even broader international audience to the festival, which has already established Lagos and Abuja as leading hubs for dance tourism.

“The festival is more than a celebration of dance; it’s an opportunity for cultural exchange and an economic boost for our local industries,” he explained.

In addition to the festival, Agedah plans to grow his mentorship and training programs under his company, Dance & Art Alive. Thousands of young Nigerian dancers have benefitted from these initiatives, which provide professional training and exposure to global opportunities.

“We’re training the next generation of cultural ambassadors for Nigeria. My goal is to create pathways for these dancers to thrive and to carry our culture proudly around the world,” he said.

Agedah also highlighted his plans to strengthen partnerships with international dance organizations to bring more global collaborations to Nigeria and to take Nigerian talent to the world stage.

“Nigeria has so much talent and untapped potential in the arts. By building these bridges, we’re not just showcasing what we have to offer but also learning and evolving as part of the global dance community,” he noted.

Reflecting on his work in social advocacy, Agedah reaffirmed his belief in the transformative power of dance.

He explained his excitement about continuing to use dance as a tool for awareness and health advocacy, following the success of recent initiatives like the partnership with Sebeccly Cancer Care Foundation during the 2024 West Africa Afro-Latin Dance Festival. “Dance isn’t just art; it’s a platform for change. Seeing lives impacted through these programs gives my work deeper meaning,” he added.

As a trailblazer in the dance industry, Agedah’s bold plans aim to further position Nigeria as a global leader in dance and performing arts. “This is just the beginning. I believe the best days for dance in Nigeria—and for our youth—are ahead,” he said.
