Declaring the exercise open on Monday, the Provost of the college, Alhaji M. H. Ibrahim, said “the training was aimed at equipping the women with skills on how to process their farm produce, add value to it and by so doing, get market for it.”
He said about 50 rural women and 60 cooperative societies drawn from Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa and Bauchi states would be trained on processing, packaging, storage and marketing of moringa, okra and mango.
He added that the trainees would also be trained on how to start and successfully manage a poultry farm, saying the participants are expected to go back and replicate same training to others in their various communities.
In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Abdulaziz Abba, said the exercise, if fully implemented would help in alleviating poverty among the rural people.
He therefore, urged the participants to concentrate while receiving the training and ensure sustainability of the effort.
